Law Roach, LaQuan Smith Tap Into Met Gala Fever

Everyone seems to want in on the Met Gala, whether that be party crashers, Instagram fashion critics or celebrity-chasing oglers outside of the Fifth Avenue museum.

Monday’s gala will celebrate the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring exhibit at the Costume Institute, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams and honorary chair LeBron James will deliver the celebrity wattage for the Host Committee.

LaQuan Smith has joined forces with the Park Lane Hotel for a few activations Sunday and Monday. The New York-based designer will showcase some of his signature runway looks and creations that were worn to the Met Gala in the past in the hotel’s Park Room. A Smith-inspired cocktail will be served at the property’s Calvert’s restaurant. Regardless if guests will attend Monday night’s bash at the museum, they will be able to get a glimpse of the goings-on at the annual extravaganza. Striking images including some never-before-seen archival ones from previous Met Galas and from Smith’s career will be displayed throughout the hotel.

Through an ongoing partnership, the stylist Law Roach has teamed with The Dominick, a downtown hotel, to create a signature cocktail. With the Met Gala in mind, they came up with “Luxury on Spring Street,” which is made of Johnnie Walker, yellow dragon fruit syrup, orange bitters and a turmeric tincture.

Anthony Rubio will be hosting his annual “Pet Gala” on Monday at GH on the Park in New York, where as many as 20 dogs will hit the 28-foot floral red carpet before taking a turn on the runway. Guests will see the canines in celebrity-inspired looks.

Daylight Studio will be hosting a Met Gala-inspired event on Saturday with the “Daylight Gala” at its Hudson Yards location. The ticketed gathering will feature editorial-style red carpet photo ops, live performances and a fashion showcase. About 300 guests are expected to join in the black-tie festivities at the 13,000-square-foot space, according to Daylight Studio’s Alfina Astor, who also has a Flatiron location. She said the purpose of the upcoming event is “to celebrate fashion, art and cultural influence — bringing together visionaries, creators and tastemakers for an unforgettable evening of style, connection and creative expression.”

On May 10, fashion designer Jeremy Scott and artist Katherine Bernhardt will host a Met Gala-inspired fundraising event at the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art to celebrate their exhibition “A Match Made in Heaven” and to raise money for educational initiatives at the museum and at Johnson County Community College.
