Walmart drone delivery Texas – DRONELIFE

Mesquite residents can now get thousands of products delivered by drone in 30 minutes or less

A new chapter in home delivery officially began this week as Walmart and Zipline launched autonomous drone delivery service from the Walmart Supercenter in Mesquite, Texas. The program gives customers in East Dallas County fast, free delivery of over 65,000 products—ranging from groceries to household goods—in 30 minutes or less.

The new offering is available to residents within a two-mile radius of the store, located at 200 US-80 in Mesquite. The service will soon expand to include more customers across the area.

Fast, Easy, and Free

Walmart and Zipline introduced the service following several weeks of a successful Early Access Program in the community. Local store leadership says the response has been strong.

“We are thrilled that our customers will now have access to this exclusive service,” said Walmart Mesquite Store Manager Jason Kelley. “Zipline delivery will offer these families yet another way our store is helping them save money and live better.”

This launch marks Zipline’s first full-service operation in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Zipline has been delivering Walmart orders since 2021, but this is their first public deployment in North Texas.

Conner Wilkinson, Head of Community Engagement at Zipline, said the company has been welcomed warmly. “We’ve been blown away by the feedback from our early customers. In just a few weeks we’ve already become a part of people’s daily routines, especially for busy parents like myself, older adults, and anyone else who wants to spend more time doing things they love and less time running errands.”

How the Delivery Works

Once a customer places an order using the Zipline app or website, the store prepares the items and loads them into a drone known as a “Delivery Zip.” The drone lifts off and flies at an altitude of about 300 feet to the customer’s home.

When it arrives, the Zip hovers in place and lowers the delivery box using a tether. The package is gently set down at the drop site before the drone returns to the store. Customers have called the process “quiet,” “gentle,” and “magical.”

Deliveries are available from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends. Interested customers can check their eligibility or join the waitlist by downloading the Zipline App or visiting flyzipline.com/texas.

On April 12th, Zipline will host a community event at the Mesquite Walmart from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Residents are invited to learn more about the new delivery option.

A Greener Way to Get What You Need

In addition to saving time, Zipline delivery helps reduce car traffic. By using drones, fewer cars are needed for short trips, which means safer roads and fewer emissions.

People can now receive items like lunch, dinner, last-minute birthday candles, or diapers without leaving home. Zipline’s goal is to make this experience common across the country.

Zipline’s Global Experience

Founded in 2016, Zipline has completed nearly 1.5 million deliveries and flown over 100 million autonomous commercial miles. The company makes a delivery every 60 seconds somewhere in the world.

Zipline operates in four continents, delivering a wide range of goods—from food and retail products to medical supplies—for governments, restaurants, and health providers.

Over the next few years, Zipline plans to expand its services to more than 10 states in the U.S., reaching tens of millions of people with faster, lower-cost, zero-emission delivery.
