The National’s frontman, Matt Berninger, has announced a new album. Get Sunk is the singer-songwriter’s second solo effort, following 2020’s Serpentine Prison, and it features contributions from Hand Habits’ Meg Duffy, Booker T. Jones, members of the Walkmen, and more. It’s led by the single “Bonnet of Pins,” which you can listen to below.
Get Sunk is out May 30 (via Book/Concord). Berninger made the album with co-producer and sometime co-writer Sean O’Brien. “Our hearts are like old wells filled with pennies and worms,” Berninger said of his album in a press statement. “I can’t resist going down to the bottom of mine to see what else is there. But sometimes you can get yourself stuck.”
Surrounding his new album’s release, Berninger will play a run of shows across North America, culminating in a release-day gig at New York’s Webster Hall. Then, he’ll hit the road again in August for a tour of Europe and the United Kingdom. See his tour dates below.
The National’s most recent studio albums—the twin releases First Two Pages of Frankenstein and Laugh Track—arrived in 2023. Last year, the band shared the live album Rome.
