The Best Original Song nominees for the 2025 Oscars are in. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ selections in the category are “Mi Camino” and “El Mal” from Emilia Pérez, “Never Too Late” from Elton John: Never Too Late, “The Journey” from The Six Triple Eight, and “Like a Bird” from Sing Sing. The Oscars ceremony, which takes place on March 2 at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, will break from tradition by airing behind-the-scenes insights on the making of the songs in place of live performances, Variety reports.
Formally, Clément Ducol and Camille are nominated for both Emilia Pérez songs (with director Jacques Audiard also being nominated for co-writing the lyrics to “El Mal”). Diane Warren is the nominee for The Six Triple Eight’s “The Journey”; Abraham Alexander and Black Pumas’ Adrian Quesada wrote the nominated Sing Sing track; and Elton John, Brandi Carlile, Andrew Wyatt, and Bernie Taupin are the nominees for “Never Too Late.” See the performers of each song below.
The category’s pre-nomination shortlist was revealed in December, with a number of songs that did not receive final nominations. Those include tracks performed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, Kneecap, Robbie Williams, Kristen Wiig, Saoirse Ronan and Nicholas Britell, and Pharrell Williams.
Last year’s Best Original Song winners were Billie Eilish and Finneas, who netted Barbie its sole statuette with their song “What Was I Made For?”
