Olivia Rodrigo updated a classic on a night out. The music star wore a gradient take on polka dots while out in New York City.
Last night Rodrigo stepped out in a spotted dress featuring a pattern that shifted in size from top to bottom. Rodrigo paired her polka dot dress with a navy overcoat, and completed her look with peep-toe high-heel sandals and Miu Miu‘s Aventure mini nappa leather bag.

Polka dots have remained a staple in recent years, with Miuccia Prada putting a sheer take on the spotted print at Miu Miu for the label’s fall 2023 collection. This past fall, for Carolina Herrera’s spring 2025 collection, designer Wes Gordon played with polka dots in a few different ways, from floral crocheted dresses to contrasting inverted takes on black and white polka dots to three-dimensional floral polka dots. Polka dots also graced the runway for fall 2024 menswear with Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing sending out bold, speckled tailored wear.
Last January Rodrigo wore another take on polka dots, attending an event for “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” in an Alessandra Rich minidress with a bow at the neckline and black sheer tights with pointed-toe slingback shoes.
Polka dots have also been trending on the red carpet this past year, with celebrities such as Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Paris Hilton, Cate Blanchett, and Brie Larson and Alexandra Daddario putting forth takes on it. Last month Erivo wore a flowing polka dot gown from Moschino‘s spring 2025 ready-to-wear collection for the Out100 Celebration in Hollywood. Hilton, meanwhile, wore a heart rendition of the polka dot in a Zimmermann midi dress to promote “Paris & Nicole: The Encore.” In October, Grande wore a 1950’s-nodding polka dot gown from Balmain to the 2024 Academy Museum Gala. And, in June, Larson and Daddario both opted to wear the same polka dot Doên dress to the Filming Italy 2024 press conference.
