Tesla’s sales may have been down last year, but there’s no denying the Model Y is still an incredibly popular vehicle. In fact, it was one of the best-selling cars in the country. On the other hand, it’s old, and at least in China, Tesla decided it needed a refresh, so it threw the Cybertruck headlights and a new rear light bar on the front of the Model Y and called it a day. In the first official photos that Tesla released, it looks fine, but based on some of the photos coming out since the refreshed Model Y was revealed, it actually looks pretty bad.
Now, it’s not like the Tesla Model Y is the best-looking car on the road. It isn’t terrible, and it does look pretty good in profile, but no one is writing home to tell their parents how much they love the headlights on Tesla’s most affordable crossover. It accomplished the goal of basically being a Model 3 hatchback, and that was all it really needed to do. Still, the Cybertruck-style headlights don’t appear to be doing the Model Y any favors, as you can see in photos posted on Twitter by user xiaoteshushu:
Yeah, it could definitely look worse, but man, that does not look good. The front end is going to get a lot of attention because of the obvious Cybertruck connection, and everyone who thinks it looks wonky here is correct. But let’s also not forget about the piece of black plastic that Tesla added between the rear lights. Maybe it will end up looking better in person, but I doubt it. In fact, I’d be willing to be it will actually look worse, especially after a few months as a New York City taxi.
Then again, this is Tesla we’re talking about. It didn’t care about the details when making cars was a priority, and now that Elon’s decided robotaxis are the future, it makes sense that the cars themselves will be neglected. Don’t worry, though. The stock price is still going to keep climbing now that Musk is acting as president. It’s been a meme stock for years, and it will remain a meme stock for the foreseeable future even if the refreshed Model Y looks weird, and the competition only keeps getting better.
