Driver Busted For DUI After Reporting Someone Else Driving Erratically

If you’re going to drive drunk – which you definitely shouldn’t – maybe you should avoid calling the police to report other motorists. Back in on New Year’s Eve, a Canadian driver wanted to call in a suspected drunk driver after he saw them driving erratically down the road. Sounds like a Good Samaritan, right? Well, as it turns out, that 50-year-old Canadian driver was drunk himself.

He reported the suspected impaired driver to the Oceanside Royal Canadian Mounted Police. After the first driver pulled over to the side of the road, he pulled his truck in front of the car in an attempt to keep the guy from driving off, according to a statement from police.

Here’s where things got screwy. When cops arrived, they smelled alcohol on this dumbass’s breath and administered a roadside alcohol screening test. Lo and behold, he failed, received an immediate 90-day driving suspension and had his truck impounded for 30 days. Woof.

The real kicker? The guy he reported to the police wasn’t even drunk, according to the statement. The poor driver was confirmed to be sober, but he was having difficulty driving in the dark. He blew a 0.0 percent on the breathalyzer, and police made sure he got home safely.

This was apparently the second call Oceanside RCMP received about the possibly drunk motorist, and they were already heading to the location, according to Road & Track.

“Unfortunately, there are many people who still believe it is okay to drink and drive,” Oceanside RCMP Sergeant Shane Worth said in a statement. “Impaired driving is an offence, it is dangerous to everyone using the roads and our officers are targeting impaired drivers every day of the year to take them off the street.”
