The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat was first introduced as a one-year-only model way back for the 2021 model year, and Dodge briefly kept its word and discontinued it for 2022 following a short production run of about 3,000 units. Then-CEO Tim Kuniskis was even quoted saying, “you’ve only got one shot [to buy one].” When 2023 came along, Dodge reintroduced the Durango SRT Hellcat, and some 2021 Durango Hellcat buyers felt so slighted by the decision that they filed a class action suit against Dodge. Despite that, the company kept producing more Hellcat-powered Durangos through 2023 and 2024, and now will continue to do so for at least one more year through 2025.
Initially Dodge estimated that only 2,000 of the single-year special edition muscle machine were going to be built, making it a very rare, potentially collectible model, but that production number was raised to around 3,000 units. Then, after not offering it for the 2022 model year like the company had promised, Dodge brought the Durango Hellcat back again for the 2023 model year, which angered some of the buyers of the 2021 model on the basis that it was advertised as a single-year limited-run car. One person involved in the suit already owned a regular Durango SRT, but chose to buy the Durango SRT Hellcat because of that exclusivity and potential collectibility. If they were pissed off back then, they must feel incredibly slighted now that the collectible “single-year” special edition has entered its fourth year of production.
Owner frustrations aside, the 2025 Dodge Durango R/T will join the Jeep Wrangler 392 as the only remaining Stellantis models with naturally aspirated Hemi V8s under their hoods, and the 2025 Durango SRT Hellcat will be the only car left in production with the 710-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter V8. The Durango GT will also continue production with its 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. 2025 Durangos are currently available for ordering at dealerships, and there is no mention of an expected production end date at the moment.
