What Car Would You Only Drive If It Was Free?

Fiat 500e

Recently, I told you fine folks about a wildly good lease deal being offered on Fiat 500es at a dealership in Colorado. At full price, the 500e is not that compelling of a car. It’s slow, has poor range and is far too expensive, but with this lease deal, it’s pretty much free for over two years. The only thing you’d have to pay is a few grand in taxes. In this day and age that’s as close to free as you can get. A deal like that makes the 500e a super compelling vehicle to own, and it got me thinking about today’s question.

I want to know what car you’d only drive if it was free. What car only becomes appealing once you don’t have to pay for it? Take that 500e, for example. Its base price is north of $34,000, and that only gets you 141 miles of range and a meager 117 horsepower. To me, even though it’s very cute, that is not worth it. However, when you’re given the opportunity to drive it for over two years for a little bit more than $62 a month, it becomes an extremely good deal.

It doesn’t have to be a car that is an objectively bad value, either. Your submission can always just be a car you don’t like for subjective reasons that you’d never be caught dead in, but the second you’re not paying for it, it’s too good of a deal to pass up. I’m not your mom. You can do whatever you want.

Anyway, why don’t you drop down below and let your fellow Jalops know what car you’d only drive if it was free? As always, I’ll be awarding extra points (and even better Christmas presents) to those who explain why they’d only own these cars if they were free.
