Shaquille O’Neal is a big man with an even bigger car collection. On a podcast a couple months back, the former NBA star and basketball analyst said he owns 40 cars. Many of them are unique custom builds due to Shaq’s large stature — at 7-foot-1-inch tall, he can’t exactly fit in most vehicles, even one as large and spacious as the Lucid Air. So Shaq did what he’s done before: He had a custom Lucid made so he could fit in it.
In recent posts to his Instagram page, Shaq showed how West Coast Customs took his Lucid Air sedan and transformed it into a two-door coupe, a body style the company doesn’t make. You might be thinking why someone with the money that Shaq has would enlist the help of a shop known for wild modifications on “Pimp My Ride.” Despite the show’s shenanigans, the people at West Coast Customs know what they’re doing. With 30 years of experience under its belt, the shop does some good work, as evidenced by how good the final product looks. The B-pillar has been pushed back to accommodate for the longer doors, but otherwise not much has been changed. This custom Air coupe really does look like something that came straight out of the Lucid factory, and it flies under the radar pretty well.
Aside from the whole two-door body, there are some little details that give away the car’s owner. The aftermarket wheels are fitted with floating center caps that have the Superman logo, one Shaq has used for years, and the illuminated Lucid logo at the front of the car has been replaced with “Diesel,” which is Shaq’s DJ stage name. Of course, with Shaq being Shaq, the Lucid was painted in the same shade of dark red as his Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
With as good as this Lucid Air coupe looks, we have to wonder if Lucid itself is watching this and considering bringing something like it to market. That’s really our professional way of saying Lucid should absolutely build its own tw0-door Air.
