Despite the brand’s troubles, Jeep has a tendency to actually listen to its typically loyal customers. When Jeep customers want something they let the brand know, and that’s paid off for 2025. Just three months after announcing it would be discontinued, Jeep says it’s bringing back the automatic transmission to the V6-powered Wrangler, and it’s all because fans were asking for it.
Back in September, the brand announced that for the 2025 model year, if you wanted a V6 with your Wrangler, you’d have to row your own gears to get it. The brand made the six-speed manual transmission the only option if buyers choose the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. An automatic was still available, you just had to either get it on the base turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4, the plug-in-hybrid 4xe or the 392 Final Edition with a 6.4-liter V8.
Jeep reversing course is all because of customer demand as Bob Broderdorf, senior vice president and head of Jeep North America, explained:
“In response to enthusiastic requests, we’re reintroducing the eight-speed automatic transmission for V6 Wrangler models, underscoring our commitment to freedom of choice, performance, and versatility for every adventure. We deeply value our community’s passion and input.”
Now buyers can equip the four-door Wrangler with the 3.6-liter V6 and eight-speed automatic. Despite bringing the option back, Jeep is going to make you pay dearly for the option to not shift your own gears: the company says the eight-speed automatic will be a $4,500 option. If you really just have to have an automatic, want the V6 and can swallow that price, Jeep says the 2025 Wrangler is available to order now.
