Loro Piana to Hold Exhibit in Shanghai

SHANGHAI BOUND: Loro Piana will travel to Shanghai next year for a brand exhibition — a first for the Italian luxury company.

The exhibit will be held at the Museum of Art Pudong in Shanghai, a city landmark that was designed by the Paris-based Ateliers Jean Nouvel.

This also will be the first time the museum, opened in 2021, will stage an exhibition with a luxury house.

Scheduled to run from March 22 to May 5, the exhibit is part of the celebrations around the brand’s centennial in 2024.

Curated by Judith Clark, the retrospective will offer an immersive journey through Loro Piana’s family history and heritage, archival visuals, artworks and special garments, celebrating the house’s craftsmanship and world of fibers.

Loro Piana has been forging longterm partnerships and collaborations with breeders of cashmere in China for decades, making it an integral country for its history and growth.

In November, Loro Piana presented “Master of Fibres,” a book published by Assouline and written by Nicholas Foulkes, sharing the most significant milestones of the brand. There are two versions of the book, which took nearly three years to complete. The volume of 196 pages features 150 illustrations and is housed in a luxury clamshell case and covered in the Loro Piana Tela Sergio fabric, crafted from cotton and linen. Retailing at 1,200 euros, it is part of Assouline’s Ultimate Collection, hand-bound using traditional techniques, with color plates hand-tipped on art-quality paper. There is also a limited edition covered in cashfur fabric for top customers.

Last month the brand unveiled a grand-scale holiday takeover of Harrods, called “The Workshop of Wonders” and running until Jan. 2, as part of its 100th anniversary celebrations.

Loro Piana also marked its centenary by celebrating the work and vision of legendary Milanese architect and designer Cini Boeri on the centenary of her birth. “A Tribute to Cini Boeri” was installed at Loro Piana’s Milan headquarters at Cortile della Seta during Design Week in April, displaying Boeri’s signature pieces upholstered in the Italian luxury brand’s most exclusive interiors fabrics and produced by Arflex.
