The significance of getting quality sleep on a regular basis is undeniable, and the bedding and environment you’re in make a world of difference when it comes to scoring better sleep. So why not treat yourself to the best luxury bedding on the market? This subset of bedding differs from ordinary sheets in several crucial aspects, ranging from materials and craftsmanship to design and overall quality.Â
Luxury bedding is often made from high-quality materials like Egyptian or Pima cotton, linen, or silk — all known for their superior softness, durability, and undeniably sumptuous feel. Aside from material, thread count and weaves (like percale, sateen, or jersey) are key components in curating the dream sleep experience. When shopping for luxe bedding, you’ll also want to consider your climate, home décor aesthetic, and personal preferences. There’s no denying that dependable, built-to-last-a-lifetime bedding is an investment, so you’ll want to make sure that you’re getting bed sheets and duvet covers that accommodate your lifestyle to a tee.
Top Luxury Bedding of 2024
Given the fact that the Internet is chock-full of such bedding, it can be hard to decipher what bed sheets and duvet cover sets are worth buying. To help you fully understand thread counts, the particulars of percale versus sateen, and a multitude of related terms, we consulted interior designer Amy Switzer, who has nearly 20 years of experience designing bedding for manufacturers. She broke down everything there is to know about luxury bedding and helped us home in on the best of the best to shop. Before snagging new luxury bedding for yourself or as a cozy gift for a loved one, look for top materials — such as Pima cotton or bamboo-derived fabrics like bamboo rayon — and reputable, high-end bedding brands (Cozy Earth, Purple, and Parachute are beloved options!) that specialize in both superior craftsmanship and keen attention to detail.
With Switzer’s advice and our own rigorous sheet-testing ventures, we curated a list of the top luxury bedding. Ready to finally feel like royalty when you hit the hay? You’ve come to the right place.

When shopping for luxury bedding, there are several important factors to consider — so as to ensure you’re selecting the best option for your preferences and needs. Luxury bedding distinguishes itself from affordable alternatives in a few key ways, per Switzer: “The material quality, thread count, feel, comfort, durability, attention to detail, breathability, temperature regulation, brand reputation, and certification are what sets luxury bedding apart from everything else in the market.”
Before investing in luxury bedding, you’ll want to pay attention to these key considerations:
- Materials: Look for bedding made from high-quality materials such as Egyptian or Pima cotton, luxury Italian bed linens, or silk. These materials are known for their superior softness and luxurious feel. The quality of the material affects the durability and longevity of your bedding, which makes for a worthwhile investment.
- Thread count: Thread count refers to the number of horizontal and vertical threads per square inch of fabric. In high-quality bedding, a moderately high thread count ranging from 300 to 800 threads per square inch often indicates a balance between softness, breathability, and durability. While a higher thread count can indicate a denser weave and potentially smoother texture, it’s not the sole indicator of quality, explains Switzer. “Sometimes, manufacturers use multi-ply threads (where multiple thinner threads are twisted together) to inflate the thread count without necessarily improving quality,” she says.
- Certifications: When shopping for luxury bedding, Switzer advises looking for bedding that holds certifications such as Oeko-Tex Standard-100 or those indicating organic, sustainably sourced materials. “These can indicate a commitment to quality and ethical manufacturing practices which is very important,” she adds.
- Price: Luxury bedding often comes with a higher price tag, so consider your budget and be prepared to invest in a quality product. However, as with anything online, also stay cautious of inflated prices that may not necessarily reflect superior quality. In addition to the price, bedding should reflect important materials and certifications that are associated with luxury offerings.
- Brand reputation: Many brands have warranties, which is great news for customers (luxury bedding isn’t cheap, after all!). The logic goes as follows: If a brand has a warranty, this typically means that they put trust in their quality, and you, by proxy, can feel confident in your purchase. Warranties can range from a few months to multiple years, during which timeframe the brand will refund your purchase if its defective or repair damage incurred. Be sure to check reviews and other sources to verify reputability.
The Best Luxury Bedding Materials
Besides the initial soft-to-the-touch feel found in the best luxury bedding, you’ll also want to consider your climate environment, overall home aesthetic, and sleeping habits when selecting luxury bedding, explains Switzer. “In warmer regions, breathable and lightweight materials, like linen or bamboo rayon, are great choices as they help maintain a cooler sleep environment,” she says. “Warmer and insulating materials such as flannel or thicker cotton might be more suitable for colder climates to provide extra warmth and comfort.”
Here are some of the top luxury bedding materials to consider:
- Linen: Linen sheets are valued for their breathability, natural texture, and ability to regulate temperature. They have a relaxed, lived-in feel and look, which is among the most low maintenance options. Linen is also machine washable, and its casual appearance means it does not require ironing. Some individuals enjoy the natural texture of linen, while others may prefer the smoothness of materials like cotton or silk.Â
- Silk: Silk bedding’s TL;DR is that it’s incredibly smooth, soft, and luxurious. The material is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, mold, and mildew, making silk a popular choice for individuals with allergies. The smooth surface reduces friction against hair and skin, which helps minimize hair breakage and reduces the appearance of sleep lines.
- Cotton: There is a range of cotton that is popular in luxury bedding, differing based on origin of the material. Egyptian and Pima share similar characteristics, such as long-staple fibers that contribute to their softness and durability. Cotton is highly breathable and wicks away moisture from the body, making it a great choice for those who run hot and might experience night sweats or hot flashes.
- Bamboo: Bamboo-derived fabric is a sustainable choice, with a similar softness and feel of cashmere or silk sheets. It is soft, breathable, and thermo-regulating, meaning it provides warmth in cooler weather and the cool feel you’re craving in warmer weather. While individual experiences may vary, well-made bamboo sheets can withstand regular use and washing.
