It looks as if the Feds have finally given us an official reason for the mystery sightings of drones over New Jersey and neighboring states over the last few weeks and damn if it isn’t boring.
In a recent interview with ABC’s “This Week,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas gave an official reason for the mysterious drone sightings.
Some of those drone sightings are, in fact, drones. Some are manned aircraft that are commonly mistaken for drones. And we do see duplicative reporting. But there’s no question that drones are being sighted.
Let me set the record straight here, George. There are thousands of drones flown every day in the United States, recreational drones, commercial drones. That is the reality, and in September of 2023, the Federal Aviation Administration, the FAA, changed the rules so that drones could fly at night. And that may be one of the reasons why now people are seeing more drones than they did before, especially from dawn to dusk. And so that is the reality.
A change in the rules regarding flying drones!? That’s so simple and likely, it just might be the truth. Reports of strange, mysterious drones flying at night have flooded the phones of agencies in New Jersey and nearby states for over a week now and footage of these drones and their mysterious lights are going viral on social media. It should be noted the majority of these viral videos are indeed taken at night.
It should be noted that these aren’t your typical drones. They’ve been described as car or coffee-table sized, for one thing. Whether these drones are just piloted by hobbyists with fancy toys or someone more nefarious, Homeland Security and the FBI could not say. No one seems particularly stressed out by their presence.
There are plenty of conspiracy theories going around about the drones. N.J. Assemblyman Eric Peterson said officials are lying to the public while appearing on CNN. That bastion of sanity Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene claims the government is the one controlling the drones. Similarly with-it president-elect Donald Trump asserts on Truth Social that these drone sightings are happening all over the country and that they should be shot down.
Whatever is going on, some lawmakers have proposed a solution. The Daily Beast says Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that he is suggesting that Mayorkas deploy a “special drone-detecting” system in both New Jersey and New York, though it’s unknown if this is Schumer’s idea specifically, or if there’s actually some plan or design in place for such a system.
