Fast-Track BVLOS Testing in Denmark

UAS Denmark Test Center and Scandinavian Drone Solutions streamline process for smaller drone operations

The UAS Denmark Test Center at H.C. Andersen Airport has introduced a streamlined process for testing smaller drones on Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations. This new initiative, made possible through a collaboration with Scandinavian Drone Solutions (SDS), drastically reduces the time required to begin testing, cutting it from up to nine months to just a few weeks.

Fast-Track BVLOS Testing

Operators can now bypass the traditionally lengthy application process to fly BVLOS at H.C. Andersen Airport. The initiative builds on the expertise of UAS Denmark Test Center and SDS, whose partnership has resulted in a simplified system for smaller drones.

Michael Larsen, Head of UAS Denmark Test Center, explained the significance of this development:

“UAS has one of the largest BVLOS airspaces in Europe, and with our collaboration with SDS, companies can start testing within a few weeks. That opportunity is quite unique and is not systematized in the same way elsewhere.”

The streamlined process is expected to benefit drone manufacturers who need rapid testing and validation of their systems.

Leveraging SDS’s Light UAS Operator Certificate

This initiative follows SDS’s recent milestone as the first Danish company to earn a Light UAS Operator Certificate (LUC). The certification enables other companies to operate under SDS’s approval for drones with dimensions up to three meters.

Jens Rahbek, COO of SDS, highlighted the advantages of this collaboration:

“We anticipate that our collaboration with UAS Denmark Test Center will attract far more drone manufacturers to H.C. Andersen Airport because of the streamlined process that allows them to quickly validate and collect data on their UAS. By that, they can provide faster feedback to their developers.”

A Unique Opportunity for the Drone Industry

With one of Europe’s largest BVLOS airspaces and the ability to fast-track BVLOS testing timelines, H.C. Andersen Airport is offering a valuable service for drone manufacturers. Companies interested in testing their smaller drones under this new process can find more details through UAS Denmark Test Center.

This development highlights how strategic partnerships can drive innovation and efficiency in the drone industry, providing a pathway for faster testing and improved development cycles.
