One of the great things about buying a brand new car is that everything should work, and if it doesn’t, the warranty will cover those repairs. In fact, you might even be able to lend it to a friend or family member to drive without having to give them an entire rundown of the weird tricks they need to know in order to make it run right. Outside of the warranty period, however, you’re on your own. And the cost of keeping an out-of-warranty car on the road for 10 years can vary by thousands of dollars.

Thankfully, our friends at Consumer Reports recently published a list of automakers ranked based on how much it costs to maintain and repair their cars over a 10-year period. Some of the worst brands will cost you more than $1,000 extra per year, but don’t worry. We also have the list of automakers that cost the least to keep on the road, too.
