PETA Names Stella McCartney as Its Person of the Year for 2024

LONDON — PETA has named Stella McCartney its person of the year for 2024, confirming she signed its “feather-free” pledge and describing her approach to design as “fur-feather-leather-and-wild-animal-skins-free.”

McCartney said she and PETA go back a long way.

“I have felt connected and committed to this courageous, rebellious, kick-ass movement since I was very young, from our joint video calling to ban fur farms in the UK in 1998 to our feather-free pledge for the fashion industry in 2024,” she said.

“I feel so proud to have a team around me who also see the importance in raising awareness not only for animal rights, but for human rights and our planet as well. I look forward to continuing our mission with PETA — giving a voice to the voiceless and, I hope, ending animal suffering once and for all,” she added.

At the designer’s spring 2025 show at Paris Fashion Week, “About F–king Time” caps were placed on every seat along with a copy of The Stella Times, a newspaper detailing the British designer’s conscious approach to luxury.

The spring 2025 collection was realized with 91 percent sustainable materials and several guests toted the new Ryder bag, a 100 percent vegan top-handle style. The bag has a sloped back like a horse, one of the designer’s favorite animals.

At New York Fashion Week in September, the designer teamed with PETA to revive the “I’d Rather Go Naked” campaign with an “It’s About F*cking Time” one, which refers to halting the use of leather.

The phrase was inspired by a tank top that McCartney wore, when her father, Sir Paul McCartney, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It’s now being used as an activist rallying cry.
