Jennifer Lawrence took cues from retro runway fashion for her latest red carpet look, embracing the dark glamour trend at the premiere of the documentary “Bread & Roses,” which she coproduced with Malala Yousafzai.
For the occasion, Lawrence wore a flowing black gown by Christian Lacroix, originally debuted in the fall 2006 collection. The dress featured a shift silhouette with off-the-shoulder sleeves.
The floor-length dress also featured a sweetheart neckline with jeweled embroidered element at the center of the bustline. The actress, who is expecting her second child with husband Cooke Maroney, opted to keep her accessories minimal, favoring simple stud and cuff earrings and a few rings.
Lawrence’s blond hair was styled in a sleek, straight look with a side part by Gregory Russell. Her makeup, featuring a smokey eye, bold brows and a soft nude lip, was done by artist Georgie Eisdell. Her look was curated by stylist Jamie Mizrahi, known for working with “Anora” breakout star Mikey Madison, Adele and Riley Keough, among others.
Mizrahi consulted vintage expert and archivist Cherie Balch for Lawrence’s look. Balch drew from Lacroix’s fall 2006 collection to create a style that accentuated Lawrence’s baby bump, blending the trendy dark glamour aesthetic with a retro vibe.
The dark glamour look has been popular on red carpets throughout 2024. Stars like Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldaña wore iterations of the trend on various occasions. Thanks to her method dressing streak, Cynthia Erivo also embraced the dark glamour trend as a nod to her “Wicked” character, Elphaba.
“Bread & Roses” follows the lives of women in Afghanistan under the Taliban, following their control of Kabul. The film debuts on Apple TV+ on Nov. 22.
