Honda’s PC800 Pacific Coast is one of those bikes that simply isn’t made anymore. This bike was created specifically for the American market in a distinctly Japanese way, with a focus on making the riding experience as car-like as possible. The PC has an integrated trunk, full bodywork coverage of all mechanical parts, and gorgeous attention to detail in the paintwork. These machines were built to be comfortable and capable of all-day ass hauling without hurting your ass along the way.
This beauty in bronze is currently available on Facebook Marketplace for a mere $1,800. People who know these bikes well will note that they were only available in pearl white over grey two-tone paint in 1989. Obviously this example has been repainted at some point along the way, but if you’re as OK with that as I am, you’ll appreciate a cheap and cheerful mile eater. The listing doesn’t tell you any of this, of course, as the seller says only that this bike “Runs and rides good.” Nothing more, nothing less.
The Pacific Coast should have been a runaway success with riders looking for a comfortable, fuel efficient, and smooth ride, but sales were mediocre at best. The bike sold nearly half of its 14,000 unit run in the first year, but soldiered on from 1989 until 1998. It should have been a winner, but it really wasn’t, and Honda Research America went back to the drawing board to come up with something better, the Honda Rune, which we all know was a smash success and sold millions of units. Don’t look that up, just believe me.
If you’ve been looking for a bike to comfortably travel the long and often bumpy roads of the U.S. this might be the one you need. Maybe use it to see the National Parks with someone you love before they’re chopped up and sold off to oil and gas companies.
