Charli XCX made the case for “Brat” utilitarianism on Monday in New York. The singer will both perform and host this weekend’s episode of “Saturday Night Live.”
Charli wore a look from Saint Laurent‘s spring 2024 collection: a black boiler suit with buttoned pockets and a leather belt. The “360” artist accessorized with a top-handle purse by the French label, completing her look with large wraparound sunglasses, Bottega Veneta Intrecciato gloves and pointed-toe shoes.
Wearing her dark wavy tresses in a ponytail, Charli added on a dark berry lip. She currently works with stylist Chris Horan, who also counts Christina Aguilera and Hari Nef as clients.
Charli’s latest LP “Brat” made a splash this summer, spawning both style and beauty trends pegged to the Grammy-nominated album. The “Brat” aesthetic is characterized by edgy, yet simplistic, Y2K-inspired fashion, with white tanks and T-shirts (ideally distressed), washed denim, smudged eye makeup, wraparound sunglasses and head-to-toe black looks being key components of the trend.
Ultimately, “Brat,” per Charli’s own description, is more of an attitude rather than a style.
“You’re just like that girl who is a little messy and likes to party and maybe says some dumb things sometimes,” she said in a TikTok video. “Who feels herself but maybe also has a breakdown. But kind of like, parties through it, is very honest, very blunt. A little bit volatile. Like, does dumb things. But it’s brat. You’re brat. That’s brat.”
Charli has been known to favor Saint Laurent looks — at the 2024 WSJ Innovator Awards in October, she modeled a long-sleeved backless wool gown, and she also sported a full Saint Laurent look on her recent “Sweat Tour,” which she co-headlined with Troye Sivan. Wearing a sheer tube dress from the label’s fall 2024 collection, Charli coordinated with Lorde, who joined her on stage for a rendition of their “Girl, So Confusing” remix.
