Happy Tuesday, how is your day looking today? Not too bad, I hope. Mine should be alright, I’ve got a roast red pepper soup to look forward to for lunch and band practice this evening, so not a bad weekday truth be told.

If you want to make a “not bad” day a little more epic, then a good soundtrack is an easy way to do so. Usually, I turn to Daft Punk or The White Stripes if I need a little more enthusiasm in my day, but after recent news I’ve looked a little closer to home.

That’s because plinky-plonky indie band The Maccabees are back! I love The Maccabees, from their cutesy debut to the huge sound they were kicking out on final album “Marks To Prove It,” so this was pretty exciting news for me specifically when it was announced. Even if it did come mere days after a rant about 20th anniversary tours, reunion shows and a minor lack in progress from the bands I loved growing up. But I digress.

Back to The Maccabees, to celebrate their triumphant return after a split that lasted less than 10 years, let’s listen to one of their most epic tunes together to make the journey into the office a little less mundane. So, dear Jalopnik readers, let me introduce you to “Grew Up At Midnight.”

Taken from the band’s third, and best, album it’s a triumphant closing track that talks of young love, growing up and all the cosey feelings you have when you first find a person that makes you feel safe and seen. That’s all told through a rousing song that builds and builds, with the sound growing in volume and breadth throughout until it culminates in a glorious fanfare.

If it sounds familiar, its epicness has been lent to a few films over the years, including the triumphant final scene of “Steve Jobs,” and if it’s good enough for Dany Boyle then it’s good enough for me. Enjoy.
