Happy Friday! How has your week been? Mine’s been kind of a mixed bag with highs that included a delicious hot chocolate and lows that included a broken washing machine. You win some, you lose some.

Now, I’m in a great mood again, though, because I remembered an excellent song that sent me down a glorious rabbit hole of French pop music, which is what everyone needs on a cold Friday morning, right?

The song in question is “Les Cactus” by French singer-songwriter Jacques Dutronc. Released in the 1960s, it’s all about those prickly characters we run into through life. You know, the kind of people who will use you for their own benefit then leave you deflated by the side of a road – like a balloon that’s been caught on the spines of a cactus.

It’s a great little ditty and one that’s even catchier when it’s being sung by musical duo The Last Shadow Puppets. The pairing of Alex Turner and Miles Kane recorded their cover of “Les Cactus” for their 2016 album “Everything You’ve Come to Expect.”

It’s raucous, loud and a whole heap of fun that’ll kick off your Friday in spectacular style. So, if you want three minutes of French poetry sung with a northern twang, “Les Cactus” is the track to brighten up your slog through traffic. Enjoy.
