When you get away with a crime, it’s generally encouraged that you actually get away — don’t dawdle around at the scene making faces at the victims until the cops show up. It seems one New Hampshire man never learned that the lesson applies to digital whereabouts as well, since after allegedly passing a bad check and driving off with a Ford F-250, he spent his time mocking the dealership he took it from on Facebook.
Ryan Duval allegedly passed a bad $25,000 check to Best Ford of Nashua, NH in exchange for a 2020 Ford F-250 Lariat. The dealership put out a call for information, looking for Duval, only to have the man himself show up in the dealership’s comments to keep everyone appraised of his whereabouts. The Drive saw some of the comments before they were deleted:
Duval allegedly skipped town with the stolen F-250 Lariat, but continued to comment on the dealership’s Facebook posts. One commenter wrote that they thought they saw Duval at AutoZone buying RealTree floor mats for the truck, but Duval responded by saying “Nope weather tech.” Duval or his lawyer may now be deleting some of those responses, though, as some threads that Facebook says he replied to no longer show any. Still, the fact that he was in the chat at all seems like a questionable tactic, at best.
Well, Duval may not have good sense for how to disappear after the perfect heist, but he does have good taste in floor mats. Credit where credit is due. It’s unlikely Duval will get much use out of them, however, since he was arrested last Friday on charges of felony theft and forgery.
Duval also had preexisting warrants for theft from a local Lowe’s hardware, which is the sort of resume you see from a real devoted thief trying to work their way up in the world. Lowe’s, a dealership, then maybe a bunch of dealerships. Or, even, the NY Auto Show.
