SLOANE HOME: Alice Temperley has a new home in London, at 134 Sloane Street in the former Façonnable space. The flagship opening comes a year after the designer sold a majority stake in Temperley London to Times Square Group LLC, and opens a new chapter for the brand.
The neighborhood is new for Temperley, who previously had a townhouse store on Bruton Street in Mayfair, and a showroom and offices in Notting Hill. After restructuring the business in 2021, she also opened a headquarters, showroom and retail space in her home county of Somerset, England.
The new store, a few steps from Sloane Square, measures 3,340 square feet, and stocks all of the collections, including rtw, evening, heritage gowns, bridal and accessories.
The decor features Temperley fabrics and wallpaper, part of a collaboration with Romo, a family-owned interiors company based in Nottinghamshire, England.
The proportions are vast, with soaring ceilings; bright, printed textiles; Turkish carpets; leopard-print furniture, and big chandeliers, all of which make the space feel like a polished, bohemian stage set. The dressing rooms, too, are big with long, lavish curtains, adding to the theatrical mood.
Rtw is housed on the ground floor, where glass-front windows face Sloane Street, while the bridal, evening, bespoke and VIP dressing spaces are downstairs. There is also a bar serving up Champagne and the Temperley family cider and brandy.
“I wanted it to be much lighter than Bruton Street, which was all dark wood and carpeting,” said Temperley during a walk-through. “Also, it’s easier to have everything on two floors of the same size. And we also plan to press that bar into action.”
The designer said she’s happy to have the bridal collection back in London once again (following the closure of the Bruton Street store during lockdown) and to have the chance to cross-sell evening wear and rtw with bridal.
Since Times Square’s acquisition, Temperley has also expanded the team, and repurposed her site in Somerset. She’ll now be using it as a creative studio and seasonal pop-up space. She’ll also be hosting tastings and events in the roof garden.
As reported, Temperley and Luca Donnini retained their titles of creative director and chief executive officer, respectively, following the sale.
The Dubai-based Times Square Group has interests in a wide array of businesses from tech to retail, and operates brands like Manolo Blahnik, Zadig & Voltaire, Furla and others in the Middle East.
