I watch a lot of YouTube. Probably too much, if I’m honest with you. In all the hours I’ve spent burning my braincells watching people on the internet build cool cars, however, I’ve never seen a project car as cool as what Mike Burroughs is doing on his Stanceworks channel. Not only is Mike putting his incredible fabrication skills to the test with a real Ferrari F40 carbon kevlar body and a from-scratch chassis, but he’s going above and beyond to build the kind of car Ferrari didn’t have the skills or the balls to build in the late 1980s. 200 miles per hour? That’s just the jumping off point!
Stanceworks has a long tradition of weird and wild automotive builds. Mike’s most recent project, which has taken a couple of years and still isn’t quite finished, has been turning a Ferrari 308 into a Honda K-series-powered time attack monster. Because I’m an elder Millennial, I’ll always remember Mike for his decades-long endeavor with Rusty Slammington the BMW E28, before YouTube even existed. But that’s a tale from the 1900s, and he’s come a long way from shitbox BMWs with no paint.
While Mike hasn’t yet announced what the engine in his F40 project will be, I reached out to see if he would give me any insights as to what will power this monster machine. If you were concerned he might be doing a blaspheme and installing a V6 that sounds like poopy doodoo, you don’t have to worry. Mike’s plan is to stick to something from the Ferrari stable, and it will have nearly double the factory horsepower output of the F40s original twin-turbocharged Tipo F120A V8.
I, for one, look forward to spending dozens of hours in the next few years watching Mike fabricate his ultimate dream car almost from scratch. This will be a good series, and you should watch it.
