Tyler, the Creator Releases New Album Chromakopia: Listen

Tyler, the Creator’s Chromakopia is here. Listen to the self-produced Call Me If You Get Lost follow-up album below. It features Childish Gambino, Schoolboy Q, Teezo Touchdown, Daniel Caesar, Doechii, and, on “Sticky,” Lil Wayne, Glorilla, and Sexyy Red, according to Rolling Stone, XXL, and others, though no guest performers are credited on streaming services at the time of writing.

Samples on the LP include Zambian musician Paul Ngozi on “Noid,” Q-Tip and James Brown on “Darlin, I,” People’s Pleasure With Alive and Well on “Take Your Mask Off,” and Luke on “Balloon.” Daniel Caesar is credited as a co-composer on “St. Chroma” and “Tomorrow.”

Tyler, the Creator led into Chromakopia with a string of noirish, self-directed videos: “St. Chroma,” the Ayo Edebiri–featuring “Noid,” and “Thought I Was Dead.” Explaining the unconventional release time early this morning, Tyler wrote on social media last week, “YOU CAN LISTEN TO IT WHEN YOU WAKE UP, YOU DONT HAVE TO DEPRIVE YOURSELF OF SLEEP FOR SOMETHING THAT IS GOING TO BE THERE WHEN YOU WAKE UP*.”

At a Chromakopia listening event in Los Angeles, Tyler linked the album’s themes to wisdom passed down from his mother, Rolling Stone reports. “Now that I’m 33, all that stuff is like ‘oh that’s what the fuck she was talking about,” he said. “‘Oh I’m not the guy I was at 20. Oh shit, people are getting older, folks having kids and families.’ All I’ve got is a new Ferrari, that does feel kind of weird. I’ve got a grey hair on my chest. Life is life. I just wanted to write about stuff I think about when I’m dolo’ing.”’

Tyler will tour behind the album next year, with stops in three continents.
