Good American Hires New President, Plans Retail Expansion

Good American has appointed Paul Griffin as president, succeeding Melissa Anderson.

“As we grow and expand, we want to ensure we have the right people to support us in achieving our goals,” Emma Grede, Good American’s chief executive officer and cofounder, told WWD in a statement. “With an extensive background in luxury fashion, Paul brings a wealth of experience and leadership skills to Good American that will be instrumental in strengthening our position within the fashion industry.”

Griffin was formerly president and chief executive officer of France-based SMCP Group, whose portfolio includes Sandro, Maje, Claudie Pierlot and Fursac, overseeing its North American market since 2015. Paul was also president of Ted Baker, where he launched the brand in the U.S., oversaw its growth and expansion into Canada.

“I’m incredibly honored to join Good American at such an exciting time for the brand,” Griffin said in a statement. “Emma and the team have built a brand ethos that resonates with customers, and I look forward to working alongside the team to continue expanding our retail presence, broadening our awareness through strategic campaigns and partnerships, and deepening our connection with our community.”

In the last year the brand, known for offering size-inclusive denim, has focused on partnerships. Working with Angel Reese, Emily Ratajkowski, Irina Shayk, Cindy Crawford and Queen Latifah as its latest “Icon” model, Good American has reached new audiences and expanded its customer base, said Grede.

“Retail has also been a major unlock for us, and we opened three new store locations in the past year alone,” she went on. “These locations allowed us the opportunity to test and learn how to bring inclusivity to life in a physical environment.”

Good American opened its flagship in Los Angeles last year at Westfield Century City before expanding to Fashion Island in Newport Beach, Calif., and The Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. The company will open two more brick-and-mortar locations in the first fiscal quarter of next year, Grede revealed.

“From continuing to innovate within our core product categories like denim, to opening new retail locations, we remain dedicated to our goal of making the fashion industry as inclusive as possible, while always delivering a best in class product and customer experience,” Grede said of future company plans.
