Jake Moody injury update: Fantasy football waiver options to consider in Week 6 as 49ers try out 4 kickers

The San Francisco 49ers will be without kicker Jake Moody for several weeks, due to a high ankle sprain. Moody injury his ankle in Week 5 against the Arizona Cardinals and head coach Kyle Shanahan announced the news on Monday morning, per Niners Nation.

The 49ers will be trying out multiple kickers to replace Moody during that stretch. For fantasy football managers, that likely means a change is in order. Moody is rostered in 93% of Yahoo! leagues, so there’s a decent chance you’re one of the Moody managers looking for help.

It’s unclear who the kickers are trying out in Santa Clara, but once one of them is signed, they’ll likely be a solid option given the ability of the 49ers to move the ball but also struggle in the red zone.

Should I drop Moody?

If you don’t have a free roster spot (or free IR spot), I’m inclined to say yes because the kicker position has plenty of decent options on waivers. He’s been great for the 49ers this season, but he’s not far enough ahead of options on waivers to justify keeping him if you face a roster squeeze.

Who should I add to replace Moody?

In the meantime, there are some helpful kickers available on the waiver wire across fantasy football leagues. Here is a list of kickers available in at least 50% of fantasy leagues, along with their Week 6 matchup.

Chris Boswell, Steelers (49%, @ Raiders): The Raiders defense stinks and should open the door for more work for the Steelers kicker.

Chase McLaughlin, Buccaneers (17%, @ Saints): He’s quietly dominated, with double digit performances in four of the first five weeks of the season. He gets to go indoors in Week 6, which is always a plus.

Austin Seibert, Commanders (16%, @ Ravens): He took over for Cade York after Week 1 and has been a steady presence. He’s scored at least ten points in three of his four appearances.

Wil Lutz, Broncos (4%, @ Chargers): The Broncos face a solid Chargers defense, but Denver has moved the ball enough that Lutz should get some opportunities.
