Jordan Love’s hilariously bad interception shows when doing too much goes wrong

The Green Bay Packers were supposed to struggle badly without quarterback Jordan Love when he suffered a knee injury at the end of the season opener. Instead, with Malik Willis filling in, Green Bay remade itself as a power running team, and somehow won both of the backup’s starts. Love returned last week against the Minnesota Vikings, and looked like a total rollercoaster (four touchdowns, three interceptions) in a close Packers loss.

Love is back under center against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 5, and he still hasn’t settled down. Late in the second quarter with the Packers facing third-and-long deep in their own territory, Love tried to make some magic happen to avoid a safety. It didn’t work out: his flailing pass was intercepted by Rams defensive back Jaylen McCollough for the easiest pick-six you will ever see.

Watch the play here:

Love was moments from being down for the safety when he somehow got the ball away. That worked out perfectly for LA, who went on top with the interception returned for a touchdown.

It’s easy to think of former Packers quarterback Brett Favre’s high-wire act that was often brilliant but also occasionally terrible. To me, this play is more like something Will Levis would do: trying to do way, way too much in an unwinnable situation, and inadvertently making yourself look like a fool in the process.

Love will make some phenomenal plays trying to get something out of nothing, but there will also be awful results. Mark this one down in the latter column.
