The latest iteration of the Oura ring has arrived.
Today, the company, best known for its heath-tracking ring, is launching its latest version Oura Ring 4, starting at $349, the first made entirely of titanium and developed with Smart Sensing technology, alongside a new app experience. According to the company, it is a sleeker, more comfortable and more accurate ring than previous versions. The ring is available for preorder starting Thursday and will start shipping Oct. 15. It is available in six colors, including Brushed Silver, Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, Stealth and Black.

Since Oura’s launch, some customers and noncustomers alike have commented on the size of the ring, often calling it a detriment. The ring is significantly sleeker and features smaller sensors that don’t add additional bulk to the interior of the ring, as previous versions had.

The capability to reduce the size of the ring is thanks to Oura’s latest Smart Sensing technology, which combines an algorithm and the wearable’s sensors. The new ring’s sensors increase signal pathways from eight to 18 to ensure the most accurate and effective pathway is being used for tracking across the entire circumference. These sensors also allow for more accurate tracking on all skin tones. According to the team, this sensor approach also improves battery life, extending an Oura ring’s life to eight days, up from seven.
“Years in the making, Smart Sensing is the future of health sensing, setting a new accuracy standard,” said Holly Shelton, chief product officer at Oura, in a statement. “We designed Oura Ring 4 to be life-proof — it’s easy to create technology that works under optimal conditions, but that doesn’t reflect real life. With Smart Sensing, Oura Ring 4 accounts for ring rotation that naturally occurs with daily activities, as well as differences in finger anatomy, shape, BMI and skin tone.”
In addition, Oura will roll out its new app experience, which will be available to all ring users, and includes several features that have been requested, including Automatic Activity Detection for 40 workouts, including gardening and dancing. Previously, the ring could only detect a small number of workouts, otherwise the user would have to input themselves or turn on heart-rate detection in real time.

Most notably, the app will now be broken down into three sections: Today, which offers users what they should know at that time and showcases snapshots of scores at the top; Vitals, which gives a more detailed look at each vertical, and My Health, which looks at longer-term data points, like cardiovascular age and stress resilience.

The ring announcement follows several other updates for Oura, including the acquisition of health tech company Veri, the beta launch of AI-coaching feature Oura Advisor and meal-tracking feature Meals.
