DP World Tour: Event of the week is Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

This week’s marquee golf event is the DP World Tour’s pro-am, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. They have an incredible 168-man field full of the top talent in the world.

These heavy hitters will take on three of Scottland’s top courses: St. Andrews Old Course, Carnoustie Championship Course, and Kingsbarns Golf Links.

This tournament differs from others because the golf stars will play with 168 celebrities and other amateurs for the first three rounds. All groups will play 18 holes on each course before they make the cut on Saturday.

Sunday’s final round will be at St. Andrews to determine the champion.

The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship draws big names every year, which makes it something many golf fans enjoy tuning into. Which of the heavy hitters made it into the field for the 2024 edition?

McIlroy is the top-ranked player headling this event as he sits No. 3 on the Official World Golf rankings.

Seven LIV Golf players will also tee it up. Having Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, and the others in the event makes the field considerably stronger. Regardless of where people stand on LIV, fans still love these guys.

The divide between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf prevents fans from seeing these top players battle on a regular basis. That’s why whenever they play against each other, the tournament instantly becomes something fans want to watch.

When McIlroy, Koepka and Rahm are in a field, it is hard for other tournaments to compete against that lineup.

There is a PGA Tour event in the States this week at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi, but it does not have the same pull. Fans will still likely tune into it, but the tournament in Scotland will likely hold their attention more.
