Pierce Aerospace announced the launch of its YR1 Remote ID Sensor at the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International’s (AUVSI) Industry Insight Summits Uncrewed Systems Security Event this week. The YR1 Remote ID Sensor provides commercial and government stakeholders with affordable airspace awareness. The YR1 is the physical layer of the company’s Flight Portal ID Remote ID Services and has been in use with early adopters and US Government customers since early 2024. The YR1 is a high-performing Remote ID sensor built for long-range Remote ID detection. The YR1 is layer-able and networkable and provides various options to serve end-user needs, especially in airport and public safety operations.
“The YR1 builds from our past prototypes utilized in US Government experiments and operations, including supporting Temporary Flight Restrictions and National Security Special Events,” said Aaron Pierce, CEO of Pierce Aerospace. “Over the past year, the YR1 has been installed to provide airspace awareness for urban, suburban, and rural airspaces, detecting drones over downtown metropolitan areas, at concerts and public gatherings, and at airports. The YR1 works across various use cases, satisfying government, commercial, and public safety airspace needs without having federal restrictions placed on its use and operation. We’ve turned on the YR1’s at airports and immediately started detecting drones actively flying in the immediate airspace.”
The YR1 provides a professional-grade and affordable airspace awareness sensor and software packages that align with airports’ and public safety agencies’ missions and budgets. To aid in customer convenience, third-party vendors can readily integrate with Pierce Aerospace’s Flight Portal ID Services to receive data streams captured by YR1 Sensors. This integration capability provides opportunities for Remote ID integration into Unmanned Traffic Management, command and control, common operational pictures, counter UAS systems, and more.
“The YR1 is the tip of the iceberg,” said Pierce. The YR1 captures the data that powers our Flight Portal Remote ID Services—a suite of software and data streams that provides Remote ID functionality for public safety and offers integration into third-party providers for UTM, C2, and C-UAS services. The YR1 marks a step in the evolution of Remote ID and airspace awareness, and we’re excited to make it available to a broader audience.”
