Here’s how the top 5 high school quarterbacks in the nation have looked in the 2024 season, so far

The high school football season is underway, as the top recruits in the Class of 2025 are looking to put a final exclamation mark on their careers before heading to the next level.

At quarterbacks, there has been a fluctuation between the top quarterbacks in the specific 2025 class, with a lot of various ranking sources having differing opinions. This makes the 2025 season an important one for this group of young talent at the position.

Here’s how each of the top five quarterbacks in the 2025 class have fared thus far in the early portion of the season.

LSU commit Bryce Underwood (MI)

Bryce Underwood, one of the highest-touted quarterback prospects in the country over the past few years, is seen as the No. 1 player in the Class of 2025 by several top recruiting platforms and his production backs up the hype.

Underwood had yet another elite performance this week, throwing for five touchdown passes, while rushing for another in Belleville’s 65-0 win over Churchill, which made him the Michigan High School Athletic Association all-time leader in touchdown passes with 128.

A five-star commit to LSU, the Michigan native now has put together back-to-back five-touchdown games to start his season, and has broken a number of records in the state of Michigan.

Not only did Underwood clear the passing touchdowns leader, but he also has set the record for total touchdowns at 151, notching his 153rd this past week with his six-score performance.

After throwing for 39 touchdowns as a freshman, 37 as a sophomore and 44 as a junior, Underwood is on pace for his best season yet as he chases a state title with Belleville.

Ohio State commit Tavien St. Clair (OH)

It’s been a pretty strong start to the season for five-star Ohio native Tavien St. Clair, who had arguably his best performance yet this past week, tossing for 222 yards and three touchdowns, while completing 11 of 12 passes and playing just the first half.

St. Clair, bumped up to a five-star and is seen as the No. 2 quarterback in the class by multiple recruiting services. He has demonstrated a good knack for throwing the ball, as well as gaining ample yardage on the ground through his team’s first four games.

He did have one shakier game, completing 10 of 19 passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 37 yards on three attempts in Week 3, but was facing rainy conditions which limited the opportunities in the air.

In his first two games, St. Clair totaled eight touchdowns and over 600 yards of passing, while also rushing for over 75 yards in the opener, leading to a good start to the year for St. Clair.

He’ll look to continue building on a hot summer, furthering the elite talent that Ohio State has cycled in at the quarterback position when he goes to campus next year.

USC commit Julian Lewis (GA)

Seen as the No. 2 quarterback in the Class of 2025 by ESPN, five-star USC commit Julian Lewis has enjoyed a good start to his senior season with Carrolton High School off to a quick 5-0 start on the season.

In a 45-16 win over Gainesville this past week, Lewis was efficient, tossing for 184 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, while completing 15 of 19 passes.

That followed three straight games where the Georgia quarterback threw for at least 270 yards and four touchdowns, which came after Carrolton’s 24-14 win in the season opener, which came in rainy conditions.

Through five games, Lewis has thrown for 1,218 yards, 20 touchdowns, and two interceptions, while completing 78.9 percent of his passes, starting the year strong. Lewis also has a rushing touchdown on the year.

Lewis has a nice challenge ahead of him against Parker High School this weekend, with a pair of four-star cornerbacks on the other side of the field working against him in Naeem Offord and Timothy Merritt.

Alabama commit Keelon Russell (TX)

One of the biggest risers in the 2025 class, five-star quarterback Keelon Russell is at the helm of one of the best programs, as he plays for No. 2 Duncanville.

Off to a fast start this year, the Texas native had a tight contest this weekend, narrowly beating St. Francis 28-24, thanks to a go-ahead touchdown drive with less than two minutes left in the game.

Russell threw for 265 yards, three touchdowns and an interception, while completing 20 for 26 passes. He also had a rushing touchdown, showing off his dual-threat prowess.

That comes after a 325-yard, five-touchdown performance in the season opener for Duncanville, who is now 2-0 on the season.

Last year, the Alabama commit threw for 3,267 yards, 35 touchdowns and three interceptions, while completing over 74 percent of his passes in 14 games, breaking out into one of the nation’s top quarterback prospects.

He’ll look to build to his resume with a strong senior season, potentially boosting his stock even more in the Class of 2025.

Notre Dame commit Deuce Knight (MS)

Moving over to George County High School for his senior season of high school football, five-star quarterback Deuce Knight is one of the hottest names in the Class of 2025, with several teams looking to flip the Notre Dame commit ahead of National Signing Day.

Knight started off his year with an easy 33-7 win over East Central, tossing for 163 yards and two touchdowns, while completing 8 of 10 passes in the opener. He also rushed for 72 yards on six carries in a dominant performance.

In Week 2, Knight found the end zone with ease, throwing for 317 yards and five touchdowns on just 18 passing attempts, while rushing for another 51 yards in a 51-36 victory over Greene County.

Then, the five-star Notre Dame commit faced some unfortunate news in Week 3, suffering an injury in the first quarter after completing 3of 7 passes for 36 yards, leading to George County dropping their first game of the season to Biloxi 30-13.

Knight has a high ceiling, given his dual-threat ability and will be one of the top recruits to watch both on the field and with his recruitment for the rest of 2024,
