Kaia Gerber went back into the archives — and her mother Cindy Crawford‘s closet — for her look at the red carpet premiere of “Shell” during the Toronto International Film Festival on Thursday. Gerber costars in the film alongside Kate Hudson, Elisabeth Moss and Elizabeth Berkley.
For the occasion, Gerber wore a recreation of her mother’s 1993 Academy Awards dress courtesy of Hervé Leger. The body-con maxidress featured a sweetheart neckline and underwire cups. She paired the look with coordinated white-hot, pointed-toe pumps and wore pieces of glittering silver jewelry, including a vintage Omega timepiece. The model has been an ambassador for the Swiss luxury watchmaker since 2017.
Gerber’s look was curated by stylist Molly Dickson, who’s also worked with Sydney Sweeney and Bella Hadid among other A-list stars. Gerber’s look at the red carpet event Thursday wholly paid homage to one of her mother’s most iconic dresses.
Crawford wore the look in 1993 while attending the Oscars with then-husband Richard Gere. Among the other elements Gerber recreated, she clearly pulled inspiration from her mother’s jewelry pieces at the time and wore similarly styled heels.
Founded by designer Hervé Peugnet in 1985, the French fashion house caters to womenswear with sleek, modern designs, including the body-con-style silhouette. Michelle Ochs currently serves at the creative director.
Like her mother, Gerber has grown her modeling career over the course of the last several years, walking the runway for brands like Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Alexander McQueen and Max Mara, among others. She is also a brand ambassador for YSL Beauté.
The 2024 Toronto International Film Festival concludes Sunday. Films screening include “The Substance,” starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or-winning “Anora,” Nicole Kidman’s new film “Babygirl” and Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis,” among other titles.
