Cate Blanchett Wears Custom Hodakova ‘Spoon Suit’ at TIFF Premiere

Cate Blanchett isn’t one to shy away from making a sartorial statement, and red carpet look at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival was no exception. Attending the premiere of her latest film, “Disclaimer,” on Monday night, Blanchett revived her viral “spoon” detailing in a custom Hodakova ensemble that felt both nostalgic and avant-garde.

Styled by longtime collaborator Elizabeth Stewart, the actress’s look was clearly inspired by her headline-grabbing “Borderlands” premiere outfit in August, where she debuted a Hodakova halter top adorned with 102 spoons sourced from around Stockholm.

Blanchett’s latest ensemble revisits that memorable moment, this time with a more structured silhouette. Her custom outfit, designed once again by Hodakova, featured a classic black two-piece suit. The tailored black jacket featured a sharp, minimalist cut, but all eyes were on the unexpected detailing: vintage silver spoons dangling from the hemline of the blazer, an element directly recycled from her “Borderlands” look.

The spoons, repurposed from her viral halter top, added a touch of drama to the sleek suit. Hodakova’s signature upcycling aesthetic was in full force, transforming everyday objects into avant-garde accessories. The look was completed with matching black pants. Blanchett grounded the ensemble with black patent leather Jimmy Choo stilettos, allowing the spoon detailing to remain the focal point of the look.

Just hours after Blanchett walked the red carpet, Hodakova’s designer Ellen Hodakova Larsson took home the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers. The Swedish designer received the award at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris, earning the grand prize of 400,000 euros and a year of mentorship from LVMH experts. Larsson’s brand is known for upcycling discarded items like mangled spoons into wearable art, as seen in Blanchett’s suit.
