YouTuber WhistlinDiesel bought a Tesla Cybertruck earlier this month as a test bed vehicle to be beaten, abused and torn apart in the name of science. During its first test video, however, while competing against an F-150, the Tesla’s trailer hitch snapped off — taking a section of the rear frame with it.
Tesla fans were outraged, somehow claiming the Cybertruck was still better-built than the F-150. So, to put those claims to the test, WhistlinDiesel put his F-150 through comparable, and then far more extreme, abuse.
The F-150, unsurprisingly, held up to the same abuse as the Cybertruck. It held up to even worse, to being dropped onto concrete from multiple stories up without the hitch cracking off, until WhistlinDiesel finally bent the frame out of whack. Then, of course, he just dropped more concrete on the truck and bent it right back into shape.
The test that killed the Cybertruck was not, in fact, as insurmountable and impassable as Tesla fans suggested. It’s abusive to the truck, to be sure, but that’s kind of what trucks are for. If you need a car to not abuse, go get yourself a sedan.
