Big Sky Theory Secures Third Innovate UK Grant for Drone Operations – sUAS News

Big Sky Theory, a provider of meteorological data and analysis, is pleased to announce that it has secured a third Innovate UK “Analysis 4 Innovators” grant. This funding will support the integration and evaluation of the FT Technologies Ltd ultra-sonic meteorological sensor (FT743) for drone operations.

While wind stack modeling remains a cornerstone of Big Sky Theory’s services, the application of real-time meteorological data extends far beyond emissions plume mapping and flow rate quantification. The latest grant marks a significant milestone for the company as it will involve collaboration with the TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL).

Together, these organizations will focus on understanding aircraft-induced turbulence, optimizing sensor placement, and developing standardized operating procedures and collection techniques. The ultimate goal is to ensure the reliability of sensor data and provide actionable meteorological intelligence.

“We are excited to collaborate with TÜV SÜD and NPL on this important project,” said Ben Lunnon-Wood at Big Sky Theory. “By integrating the FT743 sensor into our operations, we can further enhance our ability to provide accurate and reliable meteorological data for a wide range of applications.”
