Longevity Clinic Modern Age Has Reopened In New York

Modern Age is back.

The New York City-based longevity and aging wellness clinic, which closed in March, has reopened its Upper East Side location under new ownership, the company’s IP having been purchased by Dr. Ali Rashan, founder and chief executive officer of ClearMD. The Flatiron location will not reopen at this time.

Under its new ownership, Rashan will also act as Modern Age CEO. While a separate company, Modern Age will now work closely with ClearMD to provide holistic health care. Modern Age clinicians, many of whom were brought back from the original business, will now be able to refer patients directly to ClearMD based on their needs, specifically for treatments and services that may not be offered as part of Modern Age’s preventative care menu.

“There’s a shift toward longevity and optimization,” Rashan said. “We have [ClearMD] clinics in primary care and gynecology, but they didn’t address the preventative arm of health care.”

While Rashan and his team were disappointed to see the closing of Modern Age, it posed an opportunity for the company to step in and establish a separate preventative arm.

At the time of the closure, Modern Age’s original founder and CEO Melissa Eamer sent an email to clients that stated: “I’m reaching out to update you with some sad news. We have made the difficult decision to close Modern Age. It has been a privilege to help thousands of patients since we opened our doors in 2022, but in today’s challenging business climate, it is not possible for us to continue to operate the business.”

Modern Age’s reopening comes on the heels of Hudson Health’s Extension Health opening, another longevity practice, which has become a growing trend across the wellness category as people are seeking preventative care over reactive care.

While the Modern Age Upper East Side location is now open, it’s in a soft launch phase, as the team is trying to address the needs of patients who were affected by the March closure — the clinic does prescribe medications, including GLP-1 weight loss drugs, which left some struggling to find a new provider and without medication for an extended period of time. The team has also been inviting influencers back in to recreate some buzz and reintroduce the clinic. That being said, Rashan said by mid-September it would be running at full capacity, open six days a week.

While the renewed Modern Age will offer services patients experienced with the original business — its in-depth aging wellness assessment, weight loss drugs, Hydrafacials, Botox, etc. — Rashan said they are focused on adding more.

“Modern Age [previously] did a great job of scratching the surface and starting off a conversation about preventative health,” he said, noting that a significant change will be referring patients directly to a ClearMD partner as needed. “The long term plan is to just do more.”

According to Rashan, that includes targeting male patients more, as well as introducing new treatments particularly in the sexual health category. The goal is also to eventually operate additional locations.

With the reopening, Eamer shared via email: “The new owner is continuing the mission that was so important to me — helping our patients feel more in control of how they age and become more optimistic about their future. It makes me really happy to see someone carrying that mission forward.”
