SPS Automation is a Christchurch-based R&D company specialising in tailored airborne and ground-based automated robotic systems. Our core technology is bespoke sensor-based AI and the design/integration of the robots that use it.
SPS Automation has an in-house rapid prototyping fabrication lab, which includes equipment like a machine learning systems, 3-axis/5-axis CNCs, 3D printers, a CNC lasers, a composites workshop, and an electronics lab. If it flies, rolls or moves and needs to think, then we build it.
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Part 102 UAV Agricultural Pilot/ Robotics Technician to join our dynamic team. This multidisciplinary role position offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of agricultural innovation, combining UAV flight operations with hands-on robotics work. The successful candidate will split their time between managing and performing UAV flight operations and contributing to robotics projects during downtime.
Key Responsibilities:
UAV Agricultural and R&D Pilot:
- Conduct UAV flight operations in accordance with our Part 102 exposition including, Mapping and Spraying operations.
- Conduct R&D test flights with experimental aircraft systems
- Plan and execute operational flight missions, ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
- Document flight operations, including mission planning, execution logs, and post-flight reports.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of UAV equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
- Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes related to UAV operations in agriculture.
Robotics Technician:
- Work with our engineers to build/assemble robotic systems, ensuring they meet design specifications and operational requirements.
- Conduct maintenance and repairs on existing robotic systems, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to brainstorm and provide feedback on practical use case of systems.
Great candidates will have:
- Proven experience and background with drones and robots
- Excellent UAV piloting skills
- Proven ability to follow process and procedures
- Knowledge of Arducopter and PX4
- Practical mechanical knowledge
- Excellent lateral thinking and practical problem-solving skills
- A willingness to self-learn
- Experience with field testing of systems
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills
- Professionalism
- Strong problem-solving skills
- A health and safety focus
- Ability to be away from home for up to a week
- Good documentation and testing practices
- Minimum 5 years of professional work experience.
Nice to have:
- Current Part 141 training UAV cert and OCA
- Experience with large Multirotor (+25kg)
- Pilot Chemical Rating.
- 4WD unit standards.
It is expected that candidate is skilled in unmanned flight operations, Part 102 training and Agrichemical training will be provided as required.
