We are going to have an away team win the Ryder Cup.
Mathematically speaking the United States are alive as a team. But it would take a miracle.
That isn’t even a strong enough word, actually. With the Americans needing 14.5 points to win the Ryder Cup (an absurd idea clearly) they would have to mine out 10 of 12 possible points during Sunday singles. A tall task.
While Friday was a tough day for the United States it got even worse on Saturday. Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Cantlay took the only red point during the morning’s foursomes and J.J. Spaun and Xander Schauffele the only one in the afternoon’s four-ball action. Europe has won all four sessions in overwhelming fashion.
This Ryder Cup will mark the first that an away team wins the event since 2012 when the Europeans emerged victorious. Despite an entire day of singles action waiting on Sunday all American energy has seemingly shifted to Adare Manor in 2027 when the United States will look to win an away Ryder Cup themselves for the first time since 1993.
