The expected meeting between the 2025 French Open’s top seeds is still in the cards after the completion of the fourth round on Monday. Janik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz both punched their tickets into the quarterfinals at Roland Garros, and both are still considered favorites for winning the second Grand Slam event of the season.
Sinner and Alcaraz are joined in the quarterfinals by Alexander Zverev, Novak Djokovic, Lorenzo Musetti, Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul, and Alexander Bublik. That list includes two Americans in Tiafoe and Paul, so the chances of a US Slam winner in the men’s bracket are still there.
Television coverage of the French Open has been handled by TNT and truTV, as well as Max, which promises to include every match of the tournament. These matches will begin bright and early on Tuesday and Wednesday for viewers in the United States.
Getting past their opponents is going to be a tall order for the Americans. Paul in particular will have his hands full with Alcaraz, the second seed in the tournament and the winner of the last French Open in 2024, in his quarterfinal matchup. Alcaraz is coming off a four-set win over another American, the 13th-seeded Ben Shelton, in the fourth round, 7-6(8), 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Paul, the 12th seed, made it past his fourth-round opponent, the 25th-seeded Alexei Popyrin, in straight sets for his fourth-round match. Tiafoe, the 15th seed, also bested his fourth-round opponent, the unseeded Daniel Altmaier, in straight sets.
The long drought of male Slam winners from the US has persisted since Andy Roddick took the US Open in 2003. Paul’s best finish was a semifinals appearance in the Australian Open in 2023 (his quarterfinal appearance at Roland Garros is his career best there), while Tiafoe has been to the US Open semifinals twice. Like Paul, Tiafoe’s quarterfinal appearance in France is his best ever.
Sinner, the top seed and winner of the last two Grand Slams — the Australian and US Opens — advanced after a straight sets win over Andrey Rublev on Monday, 6-1, 6-3, 6-4. He’ll take on the unseeded Alexander Bublik in his quarterfinal matchup. Bublik is coming off a huge upset over the fifth-seeded Jack Draper, but he’ll have his hands full with Sinner, who looks like the best player in the field and has for some time now.
Djokovic is the sixth seed this time around, and he picked up his 100th career win at Roland Garros with a straight-set victory over Cameron Norrie in the fourth round. He’ll face his toughest test of the contest in the third-seeded Zverev, who caught a bit of a break when his fourth-round opponent, Tallon Griekspoor, had to retire from the match early in the second set.
Zverev is still looking for his first Grand Slam win, after reaching the final of the Australian Open earlier this year as well as the final at Roland Garros last season. Djokovic may be beyond his prime, but he’s won three titles at the French Open and would love to add another.
Tiafoe, the 15th seed, will take on Musetti, the eighth seed, in the other quarterfinal match. This quarterfinal appearance is Musetti’s best at Roland Garros, though he made it to the semifinals of Wimbledon in 2024.
Play begins bright and early Tuesday morning, at least in the United States. Musetti vs. Tiafoe will be up first on the men’s side, with a start time around 8 a.m. ET. Paul and Alcaraz will have the night session, which works out to around 2:30 p.m. ET for viewers in the US. Television coverage will be provided by TNT, with further analysis and replay on Tennis Channel and truTV, as well as online streaming through TNT and Max.
It will be a similar deal on Wednesday, when Zverev will take on Djokovic and Bublik will face Sinner. On the women’s side, Aryna Sabalenka will take on Qinwen Zheng and Elina Svitolina will face Iga Świątek on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Mirra Andreeva will face Louis Boisson, while Americans Madison Keys and Coco Gauff meet in the last quarterfinal.
